Beautiful morning on the Washington coast clamming. Longbeach is supposed to be worlds longest beach and during clamming season it is super crowded...like clamming on a NY subway during rush hour. So many people and to be frank, not particularly diverse. Probably the same ratio of white people to minorities as you would find at a Dave Mathews concert or at Trader Joes. I am literally the only minority in this sea of people for as far at the naked eye can see...but apparently the Washington Fish and Wildlife service uses the Hubble telescope affixed with an Asian Finder. I was cited for waste because I put back a few very small clams that I deemed too small to harvest (baby clams, if you will). I was cited for not murdering baby clams. This, as I was surrounded by little kids crushing the clams they found and feeding them to their dogs and others (who will remain nameless) practicing their pitching skills and tossing the small ones back into the ocean. My method was to carefully place them back in the sand and cover them. For this I was given a $99 ticket by a guy named Jethro sporting a Donald Sterling is my homeboy lapel pin. Something tells me that when I go to court I will be surrounded by the remaining .01 percent of the minority population of Longbeach Wa.
