Beautifully decorated graves. White-washed tombs! This is the unforgettable metaphor that Jesus used on Tuesday of Holy Week when speaking to (of) the scribes and Pharisees. ...You are like tombs that are painted white. They look beautiful on the outside. But on the inside they are full of the bones of the dead.... (NIRV). This is what happens when we focus our energies on how we APPEAR to others instead of working to become the kind of persons we desire to be. ... How people see us is important, for sure, but, ultimately, we cant control that. And while we should care about our public-perception, its more important - under management by the Holy Spirit - to do the hard, hidden, undercover work required to become the people whom God purposed us to be and has given us a deep desire to become! And if we work to make our hearts beautiful, eventually, that beauty will be on display for the whole world to see! If we neglect our true selves to focus on our appearances, our souls die a slow death, and, eventually, our ugly, neglected hearts and souls will peek through the cracks of our decorated shells. And that, my friends, is always a very sad sight.
