Beaver Dam Fire Department 01/05/2015 at 16:30 hours At about 4:37 p.m., the Beaver Dam Fire Department was notified of smoke coming from the building at 1322 N. Spring Street in the City of Beaver Dam. This building is the former Green Giant facility and is now used for storage. The owner of the building reported there were several boats, RVs, cars, and trailers stored inside. Police and fire units from Beaver Dam responded and found heavy smoke and fire coming from the northwest corner of the building. The Beaver Dam Fire Department began a defensive fire attack and called for mutual aid from neighboring departments via the statewide mutual aid box alarm system (MABAS). Units from Burnett, Fox Lake, Horicon, Hustisford, Juneau, Lowell, Randolph, Reeseville, Watertown, Waupun, Dodge County Emergency Management, DECERT, and the Beaver Dam Police Department assisted with the operation and helped answer other calls during the operation. Two firefighters were transported to Beaver Dam Community Hospital and treated for minor injuries. Most mutual aid units were released at about 11:45 p.m. Beaver Dam Fire units will remain on the scene until further notice. Fire suppression efforts were hampered by the cold temperatures, high winds, and a frozen sprinkler system in the building that rendered it inoperable. Most of the fire crews were released at about 11:30 P.M. However, one Beaver Dam Fire crew remained on the scene overnight to extinguish hot-spots. This crew returned to quarters at about 11:00 a.m. A routine cause and origin investigation was conducted by the Beaver Dam Police and Fire Departments and Wisconsin Department of Justice. The preliminary findings of this joint investigation showed the origin of the fire to be in the northwest corner of the occupancy. However, the cause of the fire is undetermined at this time. Further investigation as to the cause of the fire will be conducted as weather condition allows. The building was turned over to the owner at 2:30 p.m. Fire Chief Alan Mannel
