Because I believe love and kindness and doing the right thing is contagious and because I strongly believe this world needs more of it I want to share this amazing story. A couple months ago God was nudging my heart to do something great this Christmas and I kept saying no, who has time to do something amazing? Not me, especially in December, Im busy and Im not capable! But because I had been praying God use me. he kept nudging. So an idea was born, I wanted to help a family like we had been helped when I was young. I approached my MOMs group (moms of multiples) because they have been a very generous, loving group to each other. I asked the group if they wanted to help me adopt families for Christmas? The response was overwhelming so we moved forward. I contacted crisis pregnancy centers, and then opened the invitation to anyone in the group who may need help. Many families came forward, the need was immense. We had 13 families that needed assistance, 67 people, 51 of them children. What was collected really blew me away, new and used, clothing, furniture, mattresses, bedding, toiletries, books, strollers, diapers, wipes, formula, toys, presents for the children, coats, boots, snowpants, dishes, pot n pans, Firestone donated new tires, games, movies........ we also collected newborn clothes, blankets, rattles that will be sent to an orphanage in Haiti. AND I had over 2000 dollars in gift cards mailed to me that were divided amongst the families. So many people who were complete strangers to me stepped up and trusted me and helped me. This has been one of the most challenging and rewarding things I have ever done. I almost called it quits a couple times and had to pray that God would hold me and help me through it and restore the joy and focus. I give all glory to him, he used me and he taught me some valuable lessons. Yesterday I dropped off at my last family, a family from Kenya living in a small 2 bedroom apartment, 7 of them, 3 generations. They were so appreciative, they made me come inside, they tried to feed me and give me juice, when I said I couldnt stay they wrapped up the food and sent it with me. I drove away crying. Thank you God for humbling me and for every single day never letting me take what I have for granted, thank you for pushing me and using me so my children can watch You work through me and know Christmas is NOT about getting toys and presents but about celebrating our Saviors birth and sharing the gift of salvation. God calls us to love, give, help. I just thought with all the chaos of the world we could all just use some good news, thank you for reading and sharing this story with me, I hope next year will be even bigger and better. And of course I have to give a huge thanks to my husband Douglas Dircks who allowed me to disrupt our family, who drove around and picked up stuff for me from all over the Twin Cities, who let me bring it into our home, never complained about the people coming and going, picked up the slack and did double duty with laundry, dishes and parenting the babies, I am so madly in love with you babe, thank you for your heart, God wanted you to see this too. Here are pictures of our living room. Merry Christmas everyone, I know people ask how do you find the time but how do we not find the time? God bless each of you. XOXO
