Because I knew Her I think you may be wondering how it is I know these things I do It is because oh-so-long ago I met someone just like you She had a smile just like yours that lit up every place Those that shared time with her, were dazzled by her grace She had that loud infectious laugh that made strangers smirk The funny way she’d tilt her head, you have the selfsame quirk The only time I saw her angry was when she yelled at a meter maid The only time I saw her frown was the cake she tried but never made Every trip with her was bound to be a misadventure For every little dirt road and path she’d always wish to venture Halloween for her brought out her inner child But the costumes she made were guaranteed to be quite wild Christmas was a time filled with love and family devotion I’d always give her something that would stir her deep emotions I am not quite sure why I thought of her today But is safe to say I know that she will never go away Memories, post cards and pictures are all I have left now Those who lost more and still go on, I truly wonder how So if some day you see me staring at some foolish thing you’ve done Forgive my thoughts as they are of someone who is gone Remember that I love you and of this you can be sure I am a better man because I knew her And though we only ever shared 1 memorable New Years Kiss It’s just the way she’d smile and say hi is what I truly miss
