Because I like to torment myself, I went back to the website for the literary agency I submitted to last week. Id followed the guidelines in their Fiction Writers Market writeup to the letter. Of course, the directions on their website differ. Completely. The written guide? Send us a cover letter, the first five pages, and a synopsis of no more than five pages. (Which is what I did.) The website? Send us the first two chapters. Well contact you if we want to see the whole thing. Stomach churning now. . . . *sigh* Guidelines are like a winnowing process. If you can follow directions, you have a better chance of impressing people. Unfortunately, if the guidelines are different . . . gah.
