Because of the UV levels, I (exceptionally) missed Full Council - TopicsExpress

Because of the UV levels, I (exceptionally) missed Full Council this evening. I am pleased I did: it looks like the factions/claques are ramping up their activities, rather as I expected would happen in the run-up year to next Mays all-out local elections here in Medway. The mob rule that those who were there have witnessed on previous occasions during this calendar year in particular are obvious mechanisms to politically manipulate the Coiuncil, and in particular the reporting of these events in the media. They have all the lines, all the excuses, the faux outrage and all the rest – as they have for generations, and some of us know from long personal experience. The latest is the exclusion of two public questions – both because they do not comply with the rules that have been essentially unchanged for well over a decade and are easy to check. Anyone with any sense would of course have done so before submitting a question. I have had it done to me, a few years ago, on a borderline decision – though on that occasion a way was found to keep the question by excising part of it. All parties agreed the Rules for Meetings, and they are reviewed periodically, so the (predictable) slanting of the protest that has reportedly arisen at the Council meeting this evening is, of course, politically motivated – but then, I wonder if the whole exercise of submitting questions that obviously didnt meet the specified criteria was a deliberate attempt to engineer this whole scenario. I do not know, but itd be no surprise to me if that were later to emerge...
