….Because this is what the holiday season is all about….. BRACE FOR IMPACT!!! Who in the world wants to hear these words? Trust me, when you hear someone say “Brace for impact,” you just know something profound is about to happen. Well, something profound did…… Our facility is kept in tip top shape with the help of Ms. Ava Gorham. There is not one inch of this facility that has not been touched by Ms. Ava in the 13 years she has been helping keep Vidant SurgiCenter clean and attractive. Every night, she comes in and works hard to make sure this facility is fresh and spotless for the next day. Whenever our facility is getting ready for inspection, we can count on Ms. Ava to spit shine every crack and crevasse, vent and blind. There is not one spot in this facility Ms. Ava hasn’t had her hands on…..all doing it with a smile on her face, a song in her heart and a friendly word to everyone she meets. ******* When Holly found out that she was to have surgery, she, like most people, became anxious, somewhat nervous, and certainly a bit apprehensive. She and her husband have only been in the Pitt County area for about six years so they werent all that familiar with where to have a surgery. But, when her friends found out that she was to have surgery, hands down, they told her to go to the SurgiCenter. It’s the “Ritz Carlton” of medical care they said. So, Holly asked her surgeon about having her surgery done at the SurgiCenter…...and the doctor quickly agreed. By the time surgery day arrived, Holly was as peaceful as she could be, thanks to the prayerful support from family and friends, although, the anxious anticipation of surgery was still an unwelcome part of her day. Avoiding surgery altogether would have been her first choice, but, she made it through just fine. However, recovery didnt go as smoothly as she had hoped. Like other folks, Holly had a hard time waking up from anesthesia, she was nauseated and was just not getting past this pain. It was consuming her. Things were just not going her way – from the announcement to have surgery to a difficult recovery….things were just not going Holly’s way…..She was praying to be out of the storm she felt her body was in!!! Then suddenly, out of nowhere, Holly heard an angel. ******* Now, Ms. Ava is going about her normal evening routine to include emptying the trash. Nothing is out of the ordinary for her. She is just doing what she loves…..her job……and singing praises to her glorious God. BRACE FOR IMPACT!!! ******* “Is that a radio playing,” Holly asks her husband, “or is that someone singing?” All Holly remembers is a soft sweet voice singing to Jesus. That beautiful voice, those praises to Jesus, calmed Holly instantly. Peace filled her body allowing her to get the rest she needed and get ahead of her pain and nausea. That glorious sound reassured Holly that “He” was there with her giving her the comfort and relief she so desperately needed. ******* A couple of weeks after Holly’s surgery, Ms. Ava received a card in the mail at the SurgiCenter addressed directly to her. BRACE FOR IMPACT!!! Looking a little puzzled, Ms. Ava opened the card. It was a card from Holly. Holly explained to Ms. Ava about the spiritual intervention she created on the day of her surgery. Although Holly and Ms. Ava never physically met that day, they were connected by the power of the Holy Spirit. Holly shared with Ms. Ava about how comforting it was to hear such a lovely voice singing to Jesus, reassuring her that He was with her. Holly thanked Ms. Ava for being God’s servant so beautifully. Ms. Ava was overjoyed to hear such wonderful news from a patient. This is just not something that happens to her. Ms. Ava is not used to making an impact on someone’s life quite like this, especially here at the SurgiCenter where she works at a time when most everyone is typically gone. Holly returned the favor of making an impact on someone’s life just by saying - Thank You! ******* On November 6, two strangers were brought together through one Spirit. Holly was able to meet the angel who gave her comfort during a difficult time. And, Ms. Ava got to meet the lady who encouraged and thanked her for doing something that she loves to do…..praising God through songs! Holly called Ms. Ava “a warrior” for Christ. Blessings were poured out to these ladies. What a miraculous and profound way to meet a new friend. Vidant SurgiCenter wishes everyone a Happy Thanksgiving and a very Merry Christmas, because we live and believe in Our Family. Caring for Yours. from every department.
