Becky Moore challenged me to do the five day black and white challenge, so for my first one, I decided to pull something out from all the way back from my first high school black and white film class with Kendall Younglund… which I cant believe was TEN years ago! It was fun looking through some of my old negatives to see how much Ive changed as a photographer (although there was a lot of cringing as well, haha), and also interesting to see how many of the things that I like to photograph are still very similar, such as things with interesting textures like this old coffee grinder of my moms. I was actually thinking about that a lot when I did this second image for a recent assignment I had for my color photography class. I had to come up with a non-visual realist way to represent Locke, California, where we went on a field trip recently. I was really not sure about how to go about it, but I found myself photographing the textures of the different walls around the town, and then decided that combining them all together was the perfect thing! Kind of like a photographic quilt of Locke, haha. And without further ado… I challenge Elissa Voss and Meghan Marie Smith! Old work, new work, whatever you like! I cant wait to see it!
