Been off line for family visiting for my birthday, but here we go again HOLY SPIRIT / HELP These next two poems sprang from a growing awareness of the Holy Spirit, His love, and His work in our lives; my life. The first speaks of His attributes, His gentleness and love and yet His underlying power and of my personal need of Him. The second is a direct plea to Him. Again I’ve stumbled along the way, again I’ve lost sight of God’s love, something which happened far too often and far too easily. It is still probably my worst problem area, though these days, satan’s coherts have to work much harder to rock my trust in God’s love. Praise God. The poem starts in the negative, as I focus on my failings and fears, but even as I’m writing it, the Holy Spirit is speaking to my spirit. He reminds me God sees us differently than we see ourselves. Where we see what we (are and are not), He sees what we will be when His work in us is complete. HOLY SPIRIT Precious Spirit, Thee I love, Perfect present from above. Gently teaching, leading on, Bidding fear and darkness gone. Loving Spirit, ever near, Casting out all trace of fear, Guiding us along the way, Close beside us every day. Gentle Spirit, gift of love, We dare to see you as a dove, Though we know Your flame of light, Gentleness, backed up by might. Holy Spirit, Jesu’s heart, Love which sets our soul apart, May You ever dwell with me, Keep me only unto Thee. © Ailsa Yates 14/3/96 HELP Holy Spirit hold me tight, Alone I’ll never make the fight, I feel so lost, alone, afraid. I fear I’ll never make the grade. Holy Spirit, stay close by, I need Your strength if I’m to try. I know the battle I can’t grasp. A frightened child Your hand I clasp. Holy Spirit, love me still, With Your message, my mind fill. Soothe my fears with Your sweet balm, Bringing peace; joy, hope and calm. Holy Spirit, help me see, What the Father loves in me. Help me know that I’m okay, Secure in Jesus day by day. Holy Spirit, help me know, All the truths to me You show. Teach me not to run ahead, Then run back in fear and dread. Holy Spirit, gently guide, Always with me, by my side. If my progress slow must be, Let me know You still love me. Holy Spirit, heal my soul, Make my wounded spirit whole. Teach me how to praise the Lord, And one day firmly grasp His sword. Holy Spirit, take my love, Give it to the Lord above. Teacher, guide and comfort be, Help me always, trust in Thee. Amen. © Ailsa Yates 15/ 3/96
