Before & After Care Program – Group Leaders and Child Care Counselors The Town of Scarborough’s Community Services Department is searching for dedicated and responsible individuals to work in their before and after care programs. Work involves the direct supervision of children at site, as well as organizing and planning activities, cleaning, and working with a team of coworkers. The positions are located in the Scarborough public schools. The ideal candidates must have the ability to connect with various age groups K-2nd, 3rd-5th, and 6th-8th grade. Required hours for the morning care program are between 6:45 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. Monday through Friday and 2:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday for the aftercare program. School vacations, snow days, early dismissals, late starts and scheduled no school days are also required. Flexibility and commitment is important. Duties include: caring for children in a school facility setting; observing and monitoring childrens activities; ensuring constant safety and security of children under the programs care; organizing and participating in planned age appropriate activities; delegating tasks to staff members; completing written documentation and forms such as incident reports and time cards in a prompt fashion; remaining in close communication with the Child Care Manager and Program Coordinators and participating in all required meetings and trainings. Position requirements: Must be at least 18 years of age. Must have a high school diploma or GED equivalent. Must have prior experience working with children. Must be a member of Maine Roads to Quality or have the ability to become a member. First Aid/CPR and Water Safety Certification or willingness to be trained. Ability to stay constantly alert, anticipate and prevent problems, deal with disruptive children in a positive manner and provide fair, but firm discipline. Ability to communicate effectively and respectively with children and their parents, as well as the Manager, Coordinators, and other child care counselors.
