Before I go: Star Trek The Wrath of Khan is actually my favorite Trek film, and I do think the pacing of Star Trek The Motion Picture is very ponderous in some places. However, I cant help agreeing in principle with the author of this article. I agree with him about it being a film of the future. In fact I will go him one better. Star Trek TMP is one of the few films that actually conveys the idea that the universe is a vast, mysterious, and wondrous place. Dr. Carl Sagan once said, Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be discovered. Star Trek The Motion Picture captures that feeling. Thats another reason I dont agree with the people who think its crap.
