Before demanding the impeachment of any publicly elected official - TopicsExpress

Before demanding the impeachment of any publicly elected official you must first understand what impeachment means, what it does and what it does not. It does NOT provide for the removal of anyone with whom you disagree. Impeachment IS a formal process in which an official is accused of unlawful activity, the outcome of which, depending on the country, may include the removal of that official from office as well as criminal or civil punishment. So first, in order to impeach, a violation of law or a criminal act must be documented. Being unpopular is not in any way against the law. Second, impeachment is a process not a guarantee of removal. Two US presidents have been impeached, Andrew Johnson was impeached in 1868 after violating the then-newly created Tenure of Office Act (The Tenure of Office Act would later be found unconstitutional by the Supreme Court of the United States), and Bill Clinton was impeached on December 19, 1998, by the House of Representatives on articles charging perjury (specifically, lying to a federal grand jury) and obstruction of justice. Neither was removed from office. Obama is not being accused of any crime. Obama (and the Senate majority) is supporting the current law of the land. The Affordable Healthcare Act is, and has been, the law of the land since March 2010 – passed by the duly elected members of both the House and the Senate and signed into law by the President. Obama is sworn to uphold the law of the land. I fail to see the crime in that. Because you feel passionately about something you feel is unfair does not make what has been done a criminal offense – it simply means you disagree. If you disagree with what’s going on, speak to the issue at hand and quit rallying for something irrelevant as a means to voice your frustration.
