Before moving to Alaska, the coldest temperature I had experienced was 7 degrees F. Planning to experience the great outdoors but not wanting to become front page news, I decided to take a winter survival course. The course involved 3-4 overnight trips in January-March , spending the night in self built shelters from available materials (aka, snow). This image was made on one of those trips during a break from a group igloo building session.
