Before you hear it from others, here is the scoop: I got into a shouting match with Councilmember Jim Prola at The Englander tonight. He shouted at me accusing me of threatening his family because I organized the protest against the raising of the communist Chinese flag in San Leandro. He believed I gave his number out, and he was called by right wingers in the South apparently with threats (I didnt actually publish his number, but it is public record and it can be easily found on the internet). I yelled back at him that by standing in favor of China, he stood for torture, repression and the death of millions of people, and that if he didnt like hearing what I had to say, he should resign. I was then told by colleagues that I shouldnt have yelled back at him because he was drunk and I had already won the argument, so I was beating an old, drunk man. I didnt realize he was that drunk, but I still dont see why I should let anyone, drunk or not, yell at me and make spurious accusations. That said, I should not have yelled in a public space, and I am sorry for that. In any case, Im not proud of the confrontation, but as I imagine itll get out, I figure I may as well own up to my part on it.
