Being Thankful Dear Lord, thank you so much for another day of life on Earth. Thank you for another beautiful sunrise to enjoy. Thank you for the wonderful sounds of nature, from the cool breeze brushing through the trees to the birds singing melodies. You are a wonderful God, full of grace and mercy. I praise you for allowing me another day to spend with my family. I love you Father! Amen. “The flowers appear on the earth, the time of singing has come, and the voice of the turtledove is heard in our land.” Song of Solomon 2:12 Strength Dear Lord, I pray that you would give me strength to be strong for You in the world today. Lord, you know the struggles that I will face today. Be with me as I go through them. Carry me if I am too weak to move. If I stumble in them, forgive me Father. When I succeed in them, I will praise You! You are worthy of all praise and honor. Amen. “My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” Psalm 73:26 Family Dear Gracious Father, I praise You for my family. Thank you for my spouse. Even in his/her weaknesses, I love him/her unconditionally. Thank you for my children. Every time I hear the pitter-patter of their feet across the house I smile. Joy overwhelms me Father! Be with my family today as they go their separate ways. Bring us all back home safely to each other I pray. Amen. “Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house; your children will be like olive shoots around your table.” Psalm 128:3 Career Dear God, I thank you for my job. You have provided me with a steady income and I thank you. I pray that you watch over me today at work and I pray that there are no accidents, so that everyone can go back to their homes. I thank you that my job has provided an income to support me and my family. I thank you for the provisions that you have given to me, my house, car and food. I pray for safe travels to and from work and I pray that you will use me as you see fit today for Your Glory. Amen. “Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.” Proverbs 16:3 Men and Women Overseas Dear Merciful Father, I pray that you would keep your hand on our men and women defending our country so that we can be free. Be with our soldiers as they go onto their assignments. Bring them back to base safely. I praise you for our brave men and women! I thank you for our brave men and women! I also pray that you give them the skills that they need in every moment, so that they can come back home safely to their families. “Blessed be the Lord, my rock, who trains my hands for war, and my fingers for battle.” Psalm 144:1 Opportunities Dear Lord, I pray today that I will yield my spirit completely to You, that You may use me as You please. I pray that You will provide me opportunities to show people how much You mean to me. Give me discretion to know what to say and how to say it. Make me bold enough, that I may proclaim salvation cheerfully and joyfully. I pray that the seeds You allow me to plant will grow and mature. I pray that You, Father, will water the seeds that You allow me to plant today. I am forever grateful for the cross; may I proclaim it in a contagious way today. Amen. “Do not be anxious about how you should defend yourself or what you should say, for the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say.” Luke 12:11b-12 Contentment Dear Glorious Father, I pray that I will stay focused on you today. I pray that You will constantly remind me to be content in all of my circumstances. I pray that You will fill me up that I may be joyful all day, even if stress creeps in. I know that through my contentment , You will be glorified. I want to honor You, Father, in all that I do. I praise Your Holy Name! Amen “Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:11-13 Conclusion You can have such wonderful encounters with God when you approach His throne in the morning. I encourage you to start praying when you wake up, if you aren’t already doing so. When you wake with God you take Him with you too. God bless you as you live a life worthy of the calling. Sometimes i feel like my prayers are kind o the same every day then, it seems i am just reciting instead of talking to God from my heart. I needed this reminder. REPLY Derek Hill February 15, 2013 at 3:23 pm I know exactly how you feel Melissa. I know I have been there before. You got it right, we nee to talk to God from our hearts. God bless you! You guys are the best! God bless! REPLY Pamela Rose Williams February 15, 2013 at 10:54 am Really like this article Derek. What a great reminder of how we should begin our day. I had a lovely lady teach me once that she recites her current memory verse before her feet hit the floor in the morning. I think this is a great idea and beginning with the Bible and prayer — even before coffee — makes a huge difference in how the day goes. Well done brother … thank you for this. REPLY Derek Hill February 15, 2013 at 3:29 pm Thank you Pam. Your friend has a great idea. Beginning with prayer as soon as you wake is definitely a great way to start the day! Blessings! REPLY Chris February 15, 2013 at 1:04 pm Thank you for this list. I’m always looking for new articles about prayer! REPLY Derek Hill February 15, 2013 at 3:32 pm Thank you Chris! I am glad you liked this article. It is a privilege to write articles that glorify God. Thank you for commenting. God bless you and your loved ones! REPLY jill February 15, 2013 at 1:27 pm These prayers are great for people who have got a family and a job to be thankful for. What about those of us whose entire families are living 3,000 miles away, who have no job or secure income. guess we will just have to be thankful for the weather!! Sometimes posting these kinds of prayers are selfish and tactless and only apply to the people lucky enough to have all this, so easy to be thankful when surrounded by family and security not so easy without any of this. Still thankful though, I wonder if you would be if all your family and security were taken away??? REPLY Gerardo February 15, 2013 at 1:51 pm Jill I wish you would go back and reread these prayers again because there are prayers for EVERYONE, not just the “lucky ones” because there are NO lucky one only those that are blessed by The Lord and if you are walking WITH The Lord then you are also blessed. REPLY Derek Hill February 15, 2013 at 3:41 pm Amen Gerardo. You are blessed when you walk with the Lord! Blessings! REPLY Derek Hill February 15, 2013 at 3:39 pm Hello Jill, while I am sorry that you are having trials and tribulations in your life, I must disagree with you. Trials come to all of us Jill. I recently finished a divorce that I did not want. My ex left me for another man and severed our marriage. Now I only see my kids half of the time I used too. I always grieve when I have to give them back to their mom, but I am very thankful for what I do have. I am thankful that I still have kids. I am thankful for another day of life. I encourage you to think on the positives in life and not the negative ones. Do you still consider me lucky? I sure don’t. Every blessing is worth pondering and being thankful for. I hope you understand where I am coming from. God is good always, no matter what is going on in our lives. Blessings! REPLY Fred February 17, 2013 at 6:13 pm Hi Derek, thanks for the explanation. I am wondering how you can come up with the prayer for family and be a blessing to the lucky people, when you are grieving for your own family? REPLY Derek Hill February 17, 2013 at 9:36 pm Hello Fred. Trials come upon all of us, but we still can pray for those we love and care about. I don’t believe in lucky people, though. It is a blessing to be a child of God; no luck is needed. I still love my kids and I will always pray for their salvation, that they may some day know the love of Jesus and His death on the cross for them. God bless you. REPLY Fred February 18, 2013 at 10:03 pm Hi Derek, thanks for the reply. Indeed, His grace is enough. And I pray God will answer your prayer by leading your kids to know Him. Derek Hill February 18, 2013 at 10:15 pm Thank you brother. Jack Wellman February 16, 2013 at 12:09 pm Jill, Derek is not selfish but selfless as I know him. Why me? Why now? What is God doing? Suffering is a tool God uses to get our attention and to accomplish His purposes in our lives. It is designed to build our trust in the Almighty, but suffering requires the right response if it is to be successful in accomplishing God’s purposes. Suffering forces us to turn from trust in our own resources to living by faith in God’s resources. Suffering is not in itself virtuous, nor is it a sign of holiness. It is also not a means of gaining points with God, or of subduing the flesh (as in asceticism). When it is possible, suffering is to be avoided. Christ avoided suffering unless it meant acting in disobedience to the Father’s will. “In the day of prosperity be happy, But in the day of adversity consider—God has made the one as well as the other so that man may not discover anything that will be after him” (Eccl. 7:14). (1) We suffer because we live in a fallen world where sin reigns in the hearts of men. (2) We suffer because of our own foolishness. We reap what we sow (Gal. 6:7-9). (3) We sometimes suffer because it is God’s discipline. “For those whom the Lord loves he disciplines, and he scourges every son He receives” (Heb. 12:6). (4) We may suffer persecution because of our faith—especially when we take a stand on biblical issues, i.e., suffering for righteousness sake (2 Tim. 3:12). Of course, all of these do not apply at the same time. All suffering is not, for instance, a product of our own foolishness, self-induced misery, or sin. It is true, however, that rarely does suffering not reveal areas of need, areas of weakness, and wrong attitudes that need to be removed like dross in the gold-refining process (cf. 1 Pet. 1:6-7). In this you greatly rejoice, even though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been distressed by various trials, that the proof of your faith, being more precious than gold which is perishable, even though tested by fire, may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ; (1 Peter 1:6-7). Further, Suffering is Purposeful. Suffering is not without meaning in spite of its mystery. It has as its chief purpose the formation of Christ-like character (Rom. 8:28-29). And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. 29 For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the first-born among many brethren; (Romans 8:28-29) Suffering Proves (tests) Us. “Trials” in James 1:2 is the Greek peirasmos and refers to that which examines, tests, and proves the character or integrity of something. “Testing” in this same verse is dokimion which has a similar idea. It refers to a test designed to prove or approve. Suffering is that which proves one’s character and integrity along with both the object and quality of one’s faith. Compare 1 Peter 1:6-7 where the same Greek words are used along with the verb dokimazo which means, “put to the test,” “prove by testing as with gold.” Suffering is a Process. As a process, it takes time. The results God seeks to accomplish with the trials of life require time and thus also, endurance. Romans 5:3-4 3 And not only this, but we also exult in our tribulations, knowing that tribulation brings about perseverance; and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope; James 1:3-4 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its perfect result, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. Suffering is a Purifier. No matter the reason, even if it is not God’s discipline for blatant carnality, it is a purifier for none of us will ever be perfect in this life. The Bible never promises happiness but ALL who live godly lives will suffer Paul told Timothy. REPLY sylvia April 15, 2013 at 9:14 am Thank you, Derek. I always pray to the Almighty God to touch my heart and give him forgiveness. For reading of your articles right now is made me strong everyday..God bless Mr.Hill REPLY Derek Hill May 21, 2013 at 2:07 pm Hello again Charyfel! As hard as it is for you right now, forgiving your husband is a wise decision. I am actually divorced (not by my own choice). I knew about the infidelity of my ex and I always thought to myself “infidelity is a sin as much as lying and stealing is”. This is what made it possible for me to forgive her. All sin has a starting point and that is from Satan. He is to blame. I will keep praying for you and hope that you can reconcile back to your husband. I wasn’t given a fair chance at that, so please take this opportunity and don’t cease to pray to God for your marriage. “What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.” (Mark 10:9) REPLY Nova Zebua May 21, 2013 at 8:19 pm Thanks for the prayers. Could you give some advice and prayers to make me strong, since I broke up with my boyfriend, my life like useless. I’m in deeply sad. He promise to marry me, but he choose the other one. I already give the best for him. What should I do? praying, of course, I always do that…but no way out for me. My relatives always ask me to married soon. It’s make me more in burden. When and how I can find the right person? thanks for your reply. REPLY Derek Hill May 22, 2013 at 8:54 pm Nova, let me just say that it is what God thinks of you that really matters. You are his child and He absolutely loves you. Your boyfriend failed you and your family and friends will fail you too, but God never fails! Trust in Him and Him alone. Talk to God. Pray to Him and ask Him what His will is for you. Please don’t ever rush into a marriage because your family is telling you too. You are the one getting married, not them. Engagement and marriage are supposed to be a wonderful time. So, don’t rush it. God has someone in mind for you. You just have to let Him show you in His timing. I hope this helps you. God bless!
