Being a Parent... When God blessed us with being involved in the process of child rearing, He also gave us rules to follow to help mold and shape the children He blessed us with, so that they would have every opportunity to be thriving members of society, and choose to be blessed children of His as well. We are to live our lives as examples, teaching them to follow us in worship, and encouraging them in the scriptures...because God has made us their spiritual leaders as well as their parents. Unfortunately so many parents want to be their childrens friend, and the result is a society that does not respect its elders or other authorities, nor does it strive for greatness or accept responsibility for its actions. Instead of the woodshed, we tell our kids they can do no wrong, we replace correction with a time out, and we never do anything that would hurt their feelings, heaven forbid they ever have the blessed emotion of hating us for caring enough about them to shape their futures instead of leaving them to chance and circumstance. I have no greater joy than when I do something other than what I taught my children, and they catch me and hold me accountable, it is proof that I have been faithful in my parenting, and I pray they are better parents than I am, should they ever be blessed in this regard. Children are both a challenge and a blessing, but they are also a responsibility before an almighty God. We should be the parent God intended us to be, so that He will be honored and we will be blessed. If we fail in this calling, we will not only be held accountable for our failures, but theirs as well, so let us do our best to make them presentable to the King, no matter how much they complain along the way. Count it a blessing if you are being faithful to your calling as a parent before God, even when it hurts, and count it a double blessing if you had parents that did the same. A strong society rests upon the pillars of great parenting and faith in God, when parents fail, society fails with them. _____ Faithfully disciplining (training, educating, correcting) your child in a manner that pleases the Lord is an expression of biblical love. It also is a step of obedience for you as a parent and provides godly direction for your child. ---John C. Broger Life is but one continual course of instruction, The hand of the parent writes on the heart of the child the first faint characters which time deepens into strength so that nothing can efface them. ---Rowland Hill We never know the love of a parent till we become parents ourselves. ---Henry Ward Beecher A child who is allowed to be disrespectful to his parents will not have true respect for anyone ---Billy Graham _____ Proverbs 22:6 ESV, Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it. Ephesians 6:4 ESV, Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord. Proverbs 29:15 ESV, The rod and reproof give wisdom, but a child left to himself brings shame to his mother. Proverbs 13:24 ESV, Whoever spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is diligent to discipline him.
