Being a responsible pet parent is not just about early spay or neuter. Every puppy/dog should be evaluated and a decision should be made that is best for their health and development. I tend to have large breed dogs so I try to let them grow and allow the growth plates to close before I remove their hormones. I have a fully fenced (REAL FENCE) yard, I dont frequent dog parks, my dogs do not run free, so they are well supervised at all times, therefore preventing unwanted puppies. There are some medical conditions that warrant a spay or neuter while there are others that warrant keeping the puppy intact for a longer period of time. I am always bothered by the cookie cutter approach to sterilization and lean more towards what is in the best interest of the individual puppy/dog.
