Being a zoophile in general (and a cynophile in particular, but no matter), Ive long had an ambiguous relationship with cockroaches, perhaps similar to the way Devo considers cats: certainly, their very existence is an abomination, yet there is something compelling about them. For example, Ive conducted experiments where I look at them as they creep about in the dark only out of the corner of my eye, yet they seem to note my attention and freeze in their tracks! - Could it be that they can read my brain waves? And if so, could they spill my darkest secrets to my employer? (Company = office supplies galore!) Anyway, it seems that Periplaneta japonica, or the Japanese cockroach. has found its way to New York. Whether it will make it there (and, according to the article, it can pretty much make it anywhere) will, I suppose, depend on its attitude. Good luck, cute little disgusting sojourner! nymag/news/features/cockroaches-2014-2/
