Being at a childrens hospital makes you feel like you are a part - TopicsExpress

Being at a childrens hospital makes you feel like you are a part of a club that you never thought you would be a part of. Surrounded by seemingly small things like broken arms to major things that fill the ICU. As a parent you unintentionally see the broken arm and think, no big deal or you see the child who is non-responsive and think, there but by the grace of God go I. Is it politically correct or theologically sound? Dont know. But I know that to the mommas in this club, pain is pain and we all understand each other on some deep level that cant be put into words. In the last hour I talked with a mom who has a daughter with severe CP having a minor medical procedure, one of the hundreds in her life. The MLM herself was born with no legs and is the primary caregiver for her teenage daughter that her world revolves around in beautiful and impossible ways. Its a miracle her baby is alive but the simple mention of the word miracle to this exhausted mom brings about a nails on a chalkboard reaction, clearly a posture of a belief about God, or possible the lack there of. He wanted me to make her smile, so I did. Then to be told, Dont worry, she will do great from the Momma in the surgery pre-op room next to ours whose baby (younger than Sadie) has no hands, no hearing and many other genetic abnormalities, yet is beautiful and brings a proud papas look to his daddys eyes as he speaks of him... You simply sit, take it all in and realize that life is a journey, pain is pain & hope is what makes your soul find joy in the midst of being a member of the Childrens Hospital Mommys club.
