Being honest with yourself and others is important because no one knows you better than you know yourself. These words came from rapper Kwesta, whose real name is Senzo Vilakazi. His debut album, Special Rekwest was released when he was 21 years old. Now older and wiser, Kwesta told SunBuzz he had to dig deep to express his heart and soul freely in the lyrics of his second album, DaKAR. Kwesta said the title of his album came to him when he was busy working on the song. He said the acronym stands for “Da King Of Afrikan Rap.” Born in Katlehong, Ekurhuleni, Kwesta told SunBuzz: “This album is very personal. “I have decided to be honest and speak my mind. I share things about my family, about love and business.” Kwesta said his first task in the morning is to call his single mum who has always been there for him. One of the songs Thul’ujaive in the DaKAR album - featuring Kid X and Zakwe - is receiving major airplay on radio stations. “Myself and the guys came up with this song while we were just chilling in studio with K-Master, who eventually produced the beats. “We were having a good time, we just started free-styling and dancing. That’s how it came about.” Balloon is another hit song he raps with R&B singer Jimmy Nevis, where the rapper shows his softer side. His fans are raving about it on social networks. “When Jimmy called to ask me to do the track with him, I was stunned and surprised. But when I listened to the song, I just loved it. “I then started reflecting on my life and the woman who my verse is dedicated to. This song again is a personal real life story,” said Kwesta. Another stand-out song included in the album is the song titled Radio. It is dedicated to his partner and the mother of his daughter. Da King of Afrikan Rap concluded by saying he is a humble person but is proud of himself and the work he has produced. He believes that his album deserves to win a few awards this year.
