Being in hospital for almost ten months permitted me to see NHS staff at their best(and worst). Ninety plus percent of my care and treatment was timely and exemplary. The nurses, on my ward in particular, understaffed and under pressure, worked twelve hour shifts with just two twenty minute breaks. They dealt with our shit, piss, vomit and blood within a system which pays them not a lot and which, in turn, demands boxes to be ticked and targets to be met.
