‘Believe Nigeria Trust Goodluck’ Dumps Jonathan For Buhari A pro-Jonathan group, ‘Believe Nigeria Trust Goodluck’, which has a strong grassroots support across the country, especially in the North, has concluded plans to finally dump the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, President Goodluck Jonathan for the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari. LEADERSHIP reliably gathered that the group’s latest move may not be unconnected with the division about the various groups under the umbrella of Goodluck Support Group, which is supposed to serve as the coordinating body. ‘Believe Nigeria Trust Goodluck‘ was formally launched by Ondo State Governor Olusegun Mimiko in September 2014, with a view to working for the re-election of President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015. The National Coordinator of the group, Mr Idris Usman, won the best state coordinator of the defunct Neighbour-to-Neighbour for Kaduna State which worked aggressively for President Goodluck Jonathan’s election in 2011. Usman is a grass-roots mobiliser who has contacts across the country, especially in the North, with large following among the youth. Analysts believe that Jonathan’s presidential campaign will suffer a great blow if the ‘Believe Nigeria Trust Goodluck’ members eventually abandon the campaign by Monday, January 26, 2014. What is more, the ‘Believe Nigeria Trust Goodluck’ campaign has a robust online presence, and indeed, has proved to be the first of its kind, as it has been engaging youths and other stakeholders in the Northeast – Yobe, Borno and Adamawa – as well as youths in the Northwest, on the need to support the re-election of President Goodluck Jonathan. The group has been engaging the Nigerian populace through social media channels; and interacting with the electorate in a robust online political community. The Believe Nigeria Trust Goodluck also has as its publicity secretary, former President of National Youth Council, Comrade Olawale Ajani. Although the Ondo governor had promised last September to oversee the operation of the group to ensure Mr President’s victory in the 2015 presidential election, he has maintained usual silence since President Jonathan’s campaign began earnestly. Efforts made by LEADERSHIP get the response of group’s National Coordinator, Mr Idris Usman , did not yield much results as he failed to pick up his calls or reply to short mobile messages sent to his mobile phone.
