Below is Regina’s story…..AAU saved her last year. Her puppies just celebrated their first birthday. Regina was the first mom saved using the transport van. The van made its maiden voyage to NC to get Regina and other dogs. Regina had her puppies on May 4, 2013. Attached is a small collage of her now and some of her puppies as well as some individual pics. For those that started watching puppycam after Reginas litter was born, here is their story. Weve heard the saying it takes a village to raise a child....it also takes a village to save a dog in need. Im happy to be part of the Angels Among Us Village. Thanks to AAU, and the unidentified volunteers at other rescues and the shelter advocates that helped this family. Because of them, this family exists. By birth, Regina is a South Carolina girl. By the efforts of shelter advocates and two rescue groups, she became a Georgia peach and the mother of 8 puppies adopted to great homes. Regina was in a small rural shelter that does not get a lot of adoption traffic and most dogs are put to sleep (PTS). Regina was not considered adoptable because she was pregnant. Her only hope to live was the shelter advocates who contact rescues and other shelters trying to find placement or homes for the dogs in the shelter. Regina was on the PTS list and it was not looking good for her. The shelter advocates were desperately trying to get her out before they came for her and took her for her final walk to a room in the back where she would be put to sleep using the heart stick method (look it up, it’s not a good way to die). Even more horrifying is that once dead, her puppies would still be alive inside her and would slowly die. Angels was making a trip to the rural shelter where Regina was housed to pick up 2 golden/lab mixes they had agreed to take when contacted by a rescue in the SC area. Through the SC rescue, the shelter advocates knew Angels was coming for the golden’s and reached out for help for Regina and two other dogs. AAU agreed to take if they could find a foster for Regina and the other dogs. They posted for fosters in the early evening. The AAU transport van was leaving on its maiden voyage for South Carolina early the next morning ….there was less than 13-15 hrs to find fosters before the van pulled out the next morning. The clock was ticking for Regina and her unborn family as well as the two other dogs. There were no foster offers for Regina. It was spring break season and everyone was traveling. No one was available. Regina’s future foster watched the post get “bumped” to the top of the foster face book page every 20 minutes or so and read the desperate pleas to help Regina and had already done the calendar math and knew she couldn’t foster Regina since her family would be on vacation the end of May and the puppies would be just weeks old. The foster watched as the other two dogs got foster offers and everyone cheered. She watched the discussions on the foster page on what time to meet in the morning to tear out the van’s crate set up that had been done earlier in the day for the golden’s and redo it to accommodate crates for the other two dogs. A crate for Regina was not discussed since she had no offers. She watched as 9 PM came and went, no offers. She watched as 10 PM came and went, no offers. It was getting close to 10:30 PM and still no offers. Regina’s future foster couldn’t stand it. Her husband agreed they could take her if they could find fosters who would watch Regina and her family while they were on vacation. The foster posted they would take her if they could find volunteers to come in and “eat our food, drink our booze, and puppy sit while they were gone.” Five minutes passed; then ten minutes. There was no response. Ping! All of a sudden the post was back at the top of the face book foster page with an offer….for two days, in the middle of the week they would be gone. Helpful, but that still left almost 7 other days. The foster posted back they would take those two days and listed the other days we needed puppy sitters. Other offers started coming in. The week was quickly getting filled in. Regina’s chance had gone from none, to some, but not 100%. There were still three days that needed to be covered before we could foster her. The post on the van crate configuration became active again.....how to get a crate, where to put it and how to secure it...they figured it out. The crate barely fit. Regina had a ride out to freedom! Meanwhile, the posts to fill in the last few days of puppy sitting were still going on. An hour and half after the first post, all the spots had been filled. Regina and her unborn family were going to make it. They had a place to go and a ride. All that was left was for AAU to contact the shelter in the morning and let them know they were coming for the golden’s/labs, Regina, and the other two dogs. Time was of the essence. AAU had to make sure their cages at the shelter were tagged with rescue so they would not be PTS that morning before AAU could get there. Two rescue hurdles had been overcome (a foster and a ride) and the biggest one remained, keeping them alive until AAU got to the shelter. The Angels Among Us van rolled into the shelter the next morning. One of the shelter advocates cried that Regina and the others were going to make it. Regina’s foster nick named Regina’s pup’s the “Angel Puppies” and named them after the Angels Among Us volunteers that helped save them. Moscato is named after the transport driver for the day. Holbrook, Loflin, Groves, Anjel, Kincaid, Yarbrough, and Tacy are named after the puppy sitters who made it possible to foster this family. This family made it. Many others dont. Please adopt. Dont shop. If you would to foster a momma dog like Regina, please join our foster team by filling out an application. angelsrescue.org/foster -jkg
