Below is a playoff preview, written on the InterSynagogue Baseball League blog by Jamie Sherman, who also happens to be the Captain of Temple Kol Ami and plays centre field and shortstop. In case you are wondering, I fall into the "wily veteran" category for Temple Har Zion. Amazing year as we all came together, and are finishing the year on a high note, and hope to carry it into the playoffs and record our first ever Playoff win this Sunday morning. If anybody wants to come and watch, we start at 9:30 a.m. at Cummer Park, Leslie and Cummer, behind the Community Centre. Temple Kol Ami (6-5; 6th seed) vs. Temple Har Zion (8-3; 3rd seed) 2013 result: Temple Har Zion 12 Temple Kol Ami 4 They are the only 2 teams to defeat this year’s defending champions, but the story doesn’t end there. THZ was formed 3 years ago by the core of players who played on TKA I, and then left the shul. The remainder of the TKA I players were welcomed into the TKA II fold and are now just Temple Kol Ami. Meanwhile, THZ followed two 8th place finishes with a solid 3rd place finish this season. Many believe a young nucleus with some wily veterans have them poised for a long run. TKA wants to build on last year’s semi final performance and return to the championship game for the first time since 2010. This team has a good mix of youth and older players (hmm, sound familiar?). They may have to do it on the strength of their 3rd ranked defence, which has surrendered fewer than 12 runs per game during their 3 game win streak, as Har Zion has been averaging almost 20 runs per game during their 4 game win streak. This is the first playoff meeting between these two teams.
