Below is a post from Kathy Schwanke, one of our Workshop Speakers for #SetApart2015. We are so thankful God lets us be a part of what hes doing in womens lives. We are thrilled Kathy is presenting a workshop this year! About 15 years ago, I was a mess, I had lost 25 pounds after weeks of insomnia due to anxiety (this is a big deal for one who has to fight like crazy to keep to a healthy weight-I literally thought I might be dying.). I tried counseling-two different places, but felt so discouraged by it and the amount of time it would take to de-clutter my heart, (and seemingly, a huge lack of compassion-though my sensitivity to judgement was at an amplified height at the time, so it may be unrealistic conclusion on my part.) So I went home one day and opened my Bible. I remembered the Christmas passage from Isaiah, that Jesus is Prince of Peace, and a Wonderful Counselor. I spent hours every day reading the Bible, seeking His peace. My friends and family didnt know how to help me. My (then) Pastor was at a loss. I finally submitted to taking medicine when I was at my lowest. I was on a low dose of Zoloft for a year, and by the end of the year, had gained enough ground with the counseling of the Bible and the meds to stand without it. The Lord led me to go to this conference of March 2001 where I was given an effective shot-in-the arm of faith. He spoke so deeply to my soul through the conference presenters that year and the years to follow, that I had several revelations of areas that I was in bondage: to peoples opinions, to past mistakes and old wounds, to emotional eclipses from misconstrued childhood experiences. The Set Apart: A Faith Filled Conference for Women is a highlight of my year. Since attending for most of the past 15 years, God has not only set my heart free, but has given me precious friends through my attendance as well as a passion for His Living Word. Processing through my messy heart has taken more time than Id have liked. But now, after a long, windy road of divine cultivation, I live with a deeply grateful heart for the redemption of Jesus and the power of His word to set a heart free. This year I will be presenting a workshop at this amazing conference that has become like home to me.
