Bemused Spalding United manager Pat Rayment has launched a scathing attack on the United Counties League fixture makers. The Tulips return to action with a home FA Cup clash against Gorleston this Saturday (3pm) – some two weeks after their last game. Rayment is angry that his team were not allocated a fixture against either Deeping Rangers or Sileby Rangers, who were also without matches last weekend. And he’s branded the UCL management committee and fixtures secretary a “joke”. Rayment said: “This league is a disgrace. Sileby and Deeping were both free, but they did nothing to arrange a game. “When we get games called off in the winter, they’ll want to extend the season again. That’s fine for them, but we have to pay players extra when that happens – and it’s just not on. “They’ve also allowed Woodford to drop out on the eve of the season. It’s a disgrace and I want to go on record as calling the fixture makers a joke.” Rayment is only missing Jake Gibson for Saturday’s FA Cup first qualifying round tie against Gorleston, who are second in the Thurlow Nunn Eastern Counties League Premier Division. He’s expecting “a very tough match” against the Yarmouth-based side. The winners will net £3,000 in prize money.
