Benefits in lowering the gaze - Ibn al-Qayyim (1) Lowering ones gaze helps him to learn to imprison his Nafs (his desires i.e. by controlling them) (2) Lowering ones gaze helps close the doors to the Hell-Fire (disobedience is the gateway to Hell) (3) Lowering ones gaze helps strengthen and make ones mind firm (because he is avoiding Haraam) (4) Lowering ones gaze helps give happiness to the heart, because the Slave learns to overcome one Nafs) (5) Lowering ones gaze helps increase ones insight (because he avoids the Haraam) (6) Lowering ones gaze helps open the paths of good for him (like the door ways to Ilm (knowledge) (7) Lowering ones gaze helps strengthen and make ones heart firm (because the Slave disobeys Iblees) (8) Lowering ones gaze helps increases the light in ones heart (because of his obedience to Allah) (9) Lowering ones gaze helps prevents pain in the heart (because sins bring pain to the Slaves heart) (10) Lowering ones gaze helps one focus on the Hereafter (because sins distract and divert one attention from the next life).
