The members of our greatest generation are dwindling down. One of - TopicsExpress

The members of our greatest generation are dwindling down. One of my fondest memories of Marine Corps boot camp was learning of, watching and reading about the heroes of WWII. Something that I still love to this very day. Today is the 70th anniversary of the largest amphibious assault in history. Over 156,000 men stormed the beaches of Normandy to begin the end of the deadliest war in the history of this planet. During WWII nearly 85 million lost their lives in that war. These men were the definition of Warriors and heroes. Many fought in multiple battles of this war with injuries suffered in previous battles. In many instances hand to hand with the enemy. It gives life a different kind of meaning when you fight for your life multiple times killing men with your bare hands. This was a period of time before PTSD was known. Those that suffered the effects of PTSD were simply said to suffer from shell shock and were more less avoided by society as a way to not activate it. This was before the over diagnosiss of mental disorders. Before the technology of modern day prosthetic limbs. Those that still remain have dealt with the after effects for nearly 3/4 of a century. Many of what is left of this great generation take great pride and rely solely on their healthcare from the Office of Veterans Affairs. With the latest revelations and scandal plaguing the VA, I encourage all of you to support any regulations or overhaul of the Veterans Affairs system regardless of which political party introduces the legislation. We owe it to these Men and Women who have sacrificed so very much for this great Nation. The overhaul and restructure of the VA is not limited to the Veterans of WWII. There are also Korean War/Conflict, Vietnam, Desert Storm, Operation Iraqi Freedom and Enduring freedom and other veterans that need your assistance. It is the least we as the American people can do to help. So in the coming weeks as legislation is introduced by our elected officials, be sure to be in contact with your Representatives and Senators to ensure this system is repaired for the sake of our Veterans.
