Benjamin Solomon “Ben” Carson is a retired American neurosurgeon. He is credited with pioneering work on the successful separation of conjoined twins joined at the head. He went from being a poor student to receiving honors and he eventually attended medical school. When He was 33 years old. He became the Director of Pediatric Neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital. In 2008, he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President George W. Bush. After delivering a widely publicized speech at the 2013 National Prayer Breakfast, he became a popular figure in conservative media for his views on social issues and the federal government. Ben Carson also writes books. He travels around the world speaking to doctors and to school children. He is a caring and skilled professional. But his life could have been very different. Benjamin Solomon Carson was born in Detroit, Michigan, on September 18, 1951, the son of Sonya and Robert Solomon Carson. His parents were both from rural Georgia. Bens mother was raised in Tennessee in a very large family. She dropped out of school in the third grade.With not much hope or prospects in life, she married Baptist minister Robert Carson when she was 13, believing that he would change her life. The couple moved to Detroit, Michigan, and for a time, the marriage was a success. Carson showered his wife with gifts and attention. But over time, Robert Carson changed. Though benevolent, he could also be domineering and erratic. In time, Sonya felt it was best for her sons if she and Robert divorced. When he was 8….
