#Benue in #News: ROBBERS SHOT 3 IN MAKURDI Written by Johnson Babajide Dare devil robbers on Tuesday night, invaded a major street in Makurdi metropolis where they wounded three persons, who are currently receiving treatment at the Bishop Murrah Medical Centre, Makurdi, during sporadic shooting. According to an eyewitness, the heavily armed robbers numbering about 10, besieged a joint at Iorkyaa Akor Street, High Level, Makurdi, the state capital, around 10:p.m and ordered customers at the joint to lie face down while they dispossessed them of their belongings. One of the victims who narrated the ordeal to the Nigerian Tribune, said the incident happened around 10:p.m while they were unwinding. “The robbers came and asked us to lie face down, they collected all we had and asked to know the owner of a jeep that was parked. It was when no answer came from us that they began shooting at us.” Some of the victims, including Chinedu (owner of the bar), Lance, Terver (surnames withheld) and a female, who sustained varing degree of injuries during the incident, were rushed to the Bishop Murray Medical Centre, Makurdi by the police, where they were now receiving treatment. As at the time the Nigerian Tribune visited the hospital, family members of the victims stated that their relations (victims) would have to undergo surgery to remove the bullets. The spokesperson of the Police Command, Makurdi, Daniel Ezeala, who confirmed the report to the Nigeria Tribune, said the command had intensified surveillance around the state. Ezeala, however, called on the people of the state to assist police in exposing the hideout of criminals.
