Berea police recorded a number of arrests this past week. Two arrested, gun, knife and ammo recovered Two armed robbers were arrested by Berea police last Tuesday. According to Lieutenant PN Naidoo, Communications Officer at Berea SAPS, crime prevention officers were on patrol when they received a complaint that someone had discharged a firearm in Lilian Ngoyi (Windermere) Road near the detective offices. The members arrived and arrested two suspects and recovered a revolver (375 Taurus), knife and three live rounds of ammunition. The men held up and robbed three residents who were walking to a garage. They took R100, watches and cellphones, said Naidoo. The arrest was a joint effort between Berea SAPS and Blue Security. Diners make off with e-card machine Two men were arrested for stealing the card machine at a Musgrave fast food restaurant on Wednesday. According to Berea police Communications Officer, Lieutenant PN Naidoo, the men went into Steers at Musgrave Centre, had a meal and asked for the card machine as they needed to make a card payment. While the waiter was busy they took the card machine and left. After viewing the CCTV footage police investigated and arrested the two men, added Naidoo. Gardener arrested for attempted murder A man was arrested for attempted murder on Thursday in the Musgrave area. According to Lieutenant PN Naidoo, Berea police spokesman, a Chubb Security reaction officer heard screams coming from a home while patrolling and called the police. When the reaction officer and police went to investigate they found the gardener at the home had tried to throttle the domestic worker and she screamed alerting the reaction officer. The gardener said he did not want to kill the woman but was trying to steal items from the home when she protested, said Naidoo. The man was arrested and a case of attempted murder is being investigated. People need to be wary of the domestic staff they hire, advsied Naidoo, Community members should rather come through to our station to get a criminal record clearance. Its takes a few a weeks but is worth the wait to ensure your peace of mind. Man arrested for possession of suspected stolen car Berea crime prevention officers were patrolling in the Mansfield Road area when they noticed a suspicious man driving around in a Silver BMW. Police stopped and searched him and his vehicle and found the registration plates did not match the licence disc and engine numbers, said Berea SAPS spokesman, Lt PN Naidoo. The man was also found with dagga in his possession. He was chargedwith possession of dagga and for suspected stolen property of the BMW as he couldnt give a valid explanation for the discrepancy, added Naidoo. Take precaution against car theft Berea police wish to make the community aware of car thefts occurring in the area. We find that people are still parking in unlit areas and under trees on the road. Park where the car is visible or in garages or behind locked gates if possible, advised Lt Naidoo.
