Bermúdez helps ADOR to gains in Palma Bay ADOR cleverly used the local knowledge of Spanish sailor Chuny Bermúdez to make gains on their competitors as they entered Palma Bay on the first morning of Leg Zero. The wind was light and fickle as Azzam approached Palma - the turn around point of the course - early on Saturday, prompting skipper Ian Walker to dispatch Spanish Olympic and America’s Cup sailor Bermúdez up the Abu Dhabi yacht’s 100’ mast to scan the horizon for fresh breeze. “This bay is like Chuny’s backyard - so he’s just gone up to tend the flowers,” grinned Walker as the talented Spaniard’s expert eyes honed in on a developing patch of breeze in the middle of the bay. The ADOR crew used the new breeze to exit the bay on the return section to Alicante in third place and within striking distance of the lead. So far on Leg Zero the wind has been stronger than originally forecast and if it holds the fleet could be back in Alicante as early as Sunday morning.
