Record Street Dallas, TX 75202 Admission: $5 Paula Nourse 214-741-7500 The Dallas Holocaust Museum/Center for Education and Tolerance will present a new special exhibit Besa: A Code of Honor from March 8, 2014 through June 18, 2014. This exhibit will focus on the Muslims who saved Jews in World War II. It will feature photographs and testimonies of Albanians and their families who rescued Jews during the Holocaust, taken by American photographer Norman H. Gershman. Albania, a European country with a Muslim majority, succeeded where other European nations failed. Almost all Jews living within Albania’s borders during the German occupation – mostly refugees – were saved. The Albanian population, in an extraordinary act of honor, refused to comply with Nazi orders to turn over Jews. They provided many Jewish families with fake documentation and often-traditional Albanian peasant clothing that allowed them to intermingle with the rest of the population. This heroism was due to a traditional Albanian code of honor, Besa, which means, “to keep a promise.” Accompanying this exhibit will be two screenings of the film Besa: The Promise in the Museum’s theater. One screening will take place on March 13, 2014 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The other will take place March 23, 2014 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Admission to the film and Besa exhibit is $5.00.
