Besides enjoying the beautiful blue sky and highlights of autumn - TopicsExpress

Besides enjoying the beautiful blue sky and highlights of autumn color with Ranger and Ruby yesterday, Evie and I met a DNR employee in northwestern Wisconsin and picked up a female Merlin with a wing injury. We then got another call from the Raptor Education Group, Inc. about a Bald Eagle seen on the ground in central Wisconsin for several days, so we stopped back in Wausau, dropped off the dogs, and headed to the farm where the eagle had been observed. After checking parts of the field, with the help of the farm owner who had first reported the sightings, we located the eagle, likely a second-year eagle going into its third year, at the edge of the field near a row of trees and long grass. With Evie distracting the bird by slowly approaching it from the front, I was able to quietly move in from the back and put a net over the eagle. After I had the eagle in a safe and comfortable grip, we carefully removed the net and got the bird into a travel box for transport to REGI for the always-expert and always-compassionate care all birds receive there. Although there are no guarantees, the goal is to get them back into the wild, so they can experience it again as these two shown below were doing in earlier encounters.
