Besides the five raccoons, mother and huge babies, there are at least two solitary raccoons who come. One is my special friend who stands and waves, comes right to me, pets my foot if Im slow with the food, and takes it from my hand. When I go to pick up the garbage can shes knocked over to get my attention, she goes into the house and then runs out looking guilty. She is adorable and very gentle. The other solitary raccoon comes right to me, but is shyer. Night before last though, as soon as she started to eat, a skunk appeared and joined her. Im convinced they are friends. They might even be the two I saw touching noses sweetly months ago. The solitary raccoons often look out into the yard nervously, like they will be attacked by the other raccoons. Skunks also bite other skunks, including their mothers. Im thinking these inter-species friends are supporting each other. They ate together, almost touching. Last night the baby oppossum came too....
