Best Soweto Derby that ended even. ****Read from the BOTTOM Posted: 29 January 2011 Time: 10:04 am Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs have played to an exciting 2-2 draw in the Soweto Derby played at the Absa Stadium in Durban on Saturday. Scroll down to read our minute-by-minute match report from the Absa Stadium. FULLTIME: And thats it, a great advert for South African soccer played in conditions that werent easy for the players. A draw is perhaps a fair result, though both teams had excellent chances to win it. 92 mins: Chiefs are finishing the stronger as Khenyeza goes close, but his shot is defelected wide. Motaung Jnr then sees his header deflected wide also. 89 mins Chiefs skipper Nazama just fails to get his head to a corner kick. Great chance to win it. There will for four minutes of added time. 85 mins: The rain is driving onto the pitch now in a typical Durban downpour. Still both teams go in search of the winner. Gerald Sibeko recieves a YELLOW CARD for Chiefs. 81 mins: First YELLOW CARD of the game goes to substitute Mathebula. 80 mins: Segolela arrives at the back post after a lovelly cross from Chenene, but misses his kick altogether. Great chance. 75 mins: Motaung Jnr shoots over from the edge of the area. He had more time than he knew. 73 mins: Chiefs bring on David Mathebula for Shaun Bartlett. 71 mins: Chances are coming thick and fast at both ends. You wouldnt want to pick a winner here ... 69 mins: Tlou Segolela replaces Paulus Masehe for Pirates. 67 mins: Great chance for the hat-trick. Mokoenas excellent cross reaches Walaza with just a tap-in needed, but he somehow misses from four yards. 64 mins: Its an open game now as Meyiwa spills the ball, Obua heads it to an unmarked Khenyeza, whose shot is brilliantly saved by the keeper. From the corner, Obua rifles in a shot from 30-yards that Meyiwa turns round the post. Chiefs make a substitution - Kaizer Motaung Junior on for Thabo Mooki. 59 mins: GOAL! Mayhem in the Pirates defence as a throw-in from the left somehow reaches Arthur Zwane at the back post, who heads home unmarked. It was a bad goal for Pirates to concede, especially as they had looked so on top since going 2-1 up. 2-2 52 mins: GOAL! Walaza scores his second! Masehe is put through and Khune can only parry his shot into the path of Walaza, who has an easy tap-in to score. Pirates 2-1 50 mins:The rain is coming down hard again, which wont make it easy for the players. Modise almost scores when he finds space at the back post, but scoops his shot wide. 47 mins: What a chance! Bartlett is put clean through one-on-one with the goalkeeper but puts his low shot wide. That should have been a goal. 46 mins: David Obua replaced Siphiwe Tshabalala on the left for Chiefs as the second half gets underway. HALFTIME: So we go in all-square at the break. Pirates shaded the first half, but both teams will be disappointed with their set-pieces, which have not been up to scratch. Still anybodys game though ... 44 mins: Approaching the end of the first half and it is still looking like Pirates are the most likely to score next, with Modise now running the show in midfield. 37 mins: Its all Pirates now as great work from Chenene leads to a foul. Modise swings in the free- kick, which is just cleared by the Chiefs defence. 34 mins: GOAL! Lebo Mokoena crosses for Walaza to score with a header from an unmarked position on the penalty spot. 1-1 28 mins: The game has settled down a bit in the last few minutes, but not before Itumeleng Khune saves a 30-yard screamer from Lucky Lekgwathi. 20 mins: Its end-to-end stuff as Khenyeza almost finds a pin-point cross for Shaun Bartlett, but the Pirates defence clears. Arthur Zwane then forces a save from young Senzo Meyiwa, while Innocent Mdledle and Walaza are causing all sorts of problems for the Chiefs defence. 15 mins This time Nzama is robbed and Teko Modise tries a shot from 40-yards when he had teammates pouring forward in support. It goes well wide. He needed to pick out a pass, not shoot. 11 mins: Cyril Nzama dwells on the ball dangerously and is almost robbed by Excellent Walaza, who would have been clear on goal. The defender manages to clear the danger, however. 3 mins: Bennett Chenene has a good run and shot from 25-yards that goes high over the crossbar. 1 min: GOAL! What a start. Mabhuti Khenyeza chests the ball, turns in the box and scores after just 20 seconds! Remarkable. 1-0 Chiefs. 15h28: The players arrive on the pitch and are meeting the dignitaries. Stand-by for kick-off! 15h22: The rain is pouring down now. Hopefully it wont spoil the game ... 15h16: The big screen has just shown Uefa president Michel Platini in the crowd looking very serious. Perhaps he is a Bucs fan and watched their strikers miss with just about every shot on goal in the warm-ups! Hopefully not an omen of things to come. 15h14: The Mexican Wave has started before the game has even kicked off! It all adds to the party atmosphere. 15h03: About 30 minutes to kick-off and the crowd continues to build for this sell-out game. The match officials having come out to do their warm- ups, including referee Ace Ncobo. How important will he be today? Hopefully we dont notice him at all. 14h48: The players have come out to warm-up and the crowd went dilly. It also signaled the start of the first few raindrops. 14h43: The wind has picked up and the clouds are looking darker overhead. Hopefully the rain stays away ... 14h20: The Pirates players have just walked onto the pitch in their suits looking very dapper. The reception they got from fans was incredible, especially when they started throwing mini balls into the stands. 14h15 (SA time): It’s an hour and 15 minutes until kick-off, but already the atmosphere in the stadium is electric, with music, singing and dancing. The crowd is building up steadily. Looks like we’re in for a cracker!
