“Better a dry crust eaten in peace than a house filled with feasting – and conflict.” – Proverbs 17:1 I don’t know about you but this verse absolutely LEPT off the page as I read it. We are in a feverish acquisition mode as people. It’s 2014 and I think if you surveyed people in every year that people have been alive on this planet, the ones that live now would be the most stressed. We have so much going on. Our work is stressful. Our friendship circles have drama. And many times, our homes are filled with conflict. It truly is a sad reality for many that home is the place that most of their conflict exists. Our home is supposed to be a place to recharge. It’s a place of encouragement, rest and laughter. I think it breaks God’s heart to see his kids drive their cars home slowly from work for the simple reason that they just don’t want to go home and fight with their family anymore. There is no conflict in our lives that is more draining than family conflict. Many times, the source of our conflict is the fact that we want a “better life” so badly. We want nicer houses and faster cars and better food. And we want it so badly that we are willing to sacrifice harmony in our homes if it means more green in our bank accounts. Money fights and money problems are the number 1 cause for divorce in our country today. Nice things aren’t the enemy. Feasting isn’t wrong. I love to eat. :) But it you have to choose between pursuing the best this life has to offer and peace in your home, choose peace. No amount of stuff that we own could ever compare to the freedom that comes from a home that is filled with joy. Pastor Corey
