Beware of Offense And these are they likewise which are sown on stony ground; who, when they have heard the Word, immediately receive it with gladness; And have no root in themselves, and so endure but for a time: afterward, when affliction or persecution ariseth for the words sake, immediately they are offended. Mark 4:16-17 These people heard the Word and said, This is awesome! They shouted and danced and raised their hands. But before long, affliction—pressure from circumstances—and persecution—pressure from people—arose, and they became offended. The word offended, scandalizo in the Greek, meant that satan trapped them, tripped them up, caused them to stumble, or enticed them to sin. Satan wants people to be offended so he can cause them to backslide. People get trapped, backslide, and stumble because they become stony ground: they have no root in themselves. In order to be a victorious Christian, you must plant the Word deeply in your heart. You must read, study, and meditate on it daily. Father, I magnify your holy name and praise you for the gift of your Word. I value your Word. I treasure it! I esteem it highly and hide it in my heart so that it may take root and bear abundant fruit in my life. In Jesus name, Amen
