Beware of wall of text! So riot has recently announced theyre contemplating on increasing the size of the LCS to 10 teams instead of the former 8. They also reviewed the current play-off system and wanted to increase the playoffs to 3 weeks from 2 originally. Im divided on the topic whilst slightly leaning against it. Note that im just providing feedback here and in no way want to harp on Riot or rant endlessly. More teams means more pro-player dreams accomplished and more players being able to dedicate their time to the game whilst not having to worry about financial stability (to an extent). However I worry if theres enough organizations to actually support these teams. EU infrastructure is already lacking and even NA needs work. Right now the NA LCS is finally getting (somewhat) saturated in both talent & infrastructure (coaching, analysts & the like). I feel the new teams will lack the backing of organizations capable of providing them the tools to play with the same means compared to some of the more established organizations (As it seems unlikely. (I might be wrong here). At the same time the NA scene has been found lacking of high skilled talent on more than one occasion, so this change may lead to more recruitment abroad to counter-act possible talent dilution(not that thats necessarily a bad thing) The main worry I have is that all this will pretty much kill the challenger scene and lower the average level of the LCS. At the same time I wonder if this also makes it more appealing for cross region teams to come over and try to get into the LCS (this would in general increase the talent/level of the LCS). I do like that Riot is reviewing the playoff format and i wholely agree with their suggestions to make it purely about winning ( not fearing relegations) and creating more hype for the matches. The only topic id like to see revisited is incentivizing the Spring split more. Having the top team participating at All-stars is definitely a step in the right direction though. I think increasing the LCS to more teams is a good decision but I feel its a little early to do it next season. If it was up to me id probably wait another year or 2 with it. Thats all folks.
