Beware the Gypsy is one of my newer tunes. I got the idea for this song from a bunch of smaller ideas that were pieced together over time. The opening lines were written over a year before the tune itself. Jezebel is a gypsy; she has a silver rule. Do unto others before they do unto you. We know how important it is to live by the golden rule, but we also know how hard it is to do when some people, and sometimes life in general, constantly hurt us. After enough of it, a person becomes what we collectively refer to as damaged. Were all damaged to some degree, but some far more than others. Ive known many lovely ladies so damaged by their pasts they cannot get close to anyone or even stay in one place long for fear of accidentally getting close to someone. And in a sad but ironic turn of events, they become like the very people that damaged them to begin with. Beware the Gypsy tells the story of a lady who was damaged along the way and will now damage you if you arent careful.
