Bhalla inaugurates 44th sub-regional basketball tourney at KV No. 2 Jammu, August 03-Minister for Housing, Horticulture and Culture Mr. Raman Bhalla today inaugurated two-day 44th sub-regional basket ball tournament at Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 2 at Jammu Cantt. Principal of the school M Laxmi Narayana besides teaching, non-teaching staff members and students in large numbers witnessed the tournament. Six teams from Jammu region are participating in the two-day tournament. The tournament began on a pious note by lighting of the lamp by the Minister in the backdrop of the recitation of deep vandana shalokas and Shankhnaad. Addressing the gathering, Mr. Bhalla said that sports is imperative for over all personality development of youth as it help in inculcating discipline among them. He said that the Government was endeavoring hard to create adequate sports infrastructure in every nook and corner of the State to provide youth an opportunity to excel in their field. The Minister informed that sports stadiums being constructed at district and block levels to provide necessary facilities to the youth. He asked the youth to come forward and participate in such type of tournaments being held at various levels in the State from time to time. Mr. Bhalla stressed upon parents and teachers to imbibe liking for sports among the youth so that they can grow into physically and mentally strong citizens and contribute in the development of state and the nation. Later, the Minister also witnessed the session ‘The youth parliament’ and gave valuable suggestions to the students. He hoped that as future parliamentarians they will come forth with new and practical solutions for the betterment of the society and nation. Mr. Bhalla praised the exemplary work being done by the KVs and congratulated the entire fraternity on the successful completion of 50 years of dedicated service to the nation. He conveyed his best wishes to all the teams and encouraged all the participants in the right spirit.
