Bhanu Jayanti celebration starts in Kalimpong PRADIP LOHAGUN, KALIMPONG, 12 Jul 2014: The 200th birth anniversary of the Aadi Kavi Bhanu Bhakta Acharya started a day ahead today in Kalimpong. A function was organised today by local literary association Basibiyalo at the auditorium of Kalimpong Girls High School. The programmes included Ramayana recitals, poetry recitals and debate competitions along with a number of Nepali folk cultural performances. The programme had the presence of prominent literary figures from the area, including CK Sreshta, Dr. Dik Bahadur Dewan, BR Chettri, Kribu Sanyami, BK Silal, Madhusudhan Lama and Dr. Anosdas Pradhan among many other. The poetry recitals were done by noted local poets Shanti Rai Sahara, Bishal Rai and Pradip Lohagun, while the Ramayana recitals were performed Basibiyalo’s cultural troupe. In another similar programme in Kalimpong, the Saptashree Gyaan Peeth held a programme to start the Bhanu Jayanti celebrations at its school auditorium. The Peeth conducted Ramayana recitals, poem recitals, debates and cultural programmes. Further, Jubilee High School at BL Dikshit Road in Kalimpong also held similar programmes to celebrate the 200th birth anniversary of the greatest Nepali poet, writer and thinker.
