Pay attention to what I know to be true. - Proverbs 5:1 (ERV) Meditation In his book When You’re All Out of Noodles, Ken Jones told of a lesson he learned one day when he noticed a small appliance at his office he’d never seen before. His receptionist explained it was a noise generator. “If it’s too quiet in here, we can distinguish the noises in the counseling offices,” she said, “so we bought the noise generator to cover the voices.” She added, “The constancy of the sound tricks the ear.” It made him think of how one kind of noise can cover the sound of another. “No wonder, Lord,” he prayed. “No wonder I strain to hear what you have to say to me. The constancy of sound—little noises, soft, inward, ambient thoughts and fears and attitudes—tricks the ears of my inner man and masks your still, small voice.” And so it is with all of us. God isn’t silent. We just have trouble hearing Him. He speaks to us every time we open the pages of our Bibles and hear His voice through His Word. Is the noise of life drowning Him out? Ask God to improve your spiritual ears, and your wisdom will increase as you pay more attention to what He speaks to you. Prayer Lord, I praise You that You choose to speak to me through the teachings and encouragements found in Your Word. Give me ears to hear through the distractions. Amen.
