Bible study tonight. Questions for discussion. Intro: Revelation 17-18 showed us the downfall of Babylon or the Great Whore. Chapters 19 and 20 will show us the doom of the beast and false prophet (19:20), the devil (20:10) and the wicked (20:15) before we have an extended vision of the new heavens and the new earth. We can divide chapter 19 into three parts. Part 1: 19:1-10 1. What does John hear in Rev. 19:1, 6? Has he heard these sounds (or similar sounds) before? If so, where? 2. Who are the much people and great multitude of Rev 9:1, 6? Have we met them before in the book of Revelation? If so, where, and in what connection? 3. What is the emotion (for want of a better word) behind the words which John hears? What is the general message of the song? What attributes of God are esp. on the foreground? 4. What is the meaning of Alleluia? (see Ps. 104:1; 106:1; 111:1; 112:1; 113:1 etc.). 5. How is Babylons utter desolation described in this chapter? What is the OT allusion? 6. What was the reason for Babylons destruction? 7. Who is introduced in 19:7 and how is this a contrast with Rev. 17:1-5? 8. Who takes part in the marriage supper of the Lamb? When does the marriage take place? Is there a difference between the wife herself (19:7) and them that are called? (19:9). 9. What are the fine linen garments in v. 8? How is participation in the wedding shown to be by grace alone? Why is a wedding a fitting and beautiful picture of the blessedness of eternal life? 10. What is John told (specifically) to write in v. 9? Has he been told to write/not to write before, and in which connection? 11. Do we actually see the wedding of the Lamb described in chapter 19? Is it described later in the book? 12. What is Johns reaction to what he sees and hears? What explains this, and how does the angel respond to John? Part 2 19:11-16 1. How does the vision of heaven open relate to the marriage supper and the Hallelujah chorus earlier in the chapter? 2. What does Christ look like at His Coming? Have we seen the Coming of Christ described in Revelation before? What new information do we receive? How does this vision of Christs Coming relate to other accounts (such as Matt. 24:30-31; I Thess. 4:16-17; 5:1-4; II Thess. 1:7-10; 2:8)? 3. Explain the elements in the vision: a. the white horse; b. the names; c. vesture dipped in blood; d. the sword out of His mouth; e. the armies which followed Him. 4. What has Christ come to do? How does this relate to chapter 14? Part 3 19:17-21 1. Which battle does this passage describe? Where have we seen this battle before, and where will we see it again in the book of Revelation. 2. Read Ezekiel 39. What similarities are there between this passage and that OT passage? 3. What is unusual about the battle described here? 4. How does the vision describe the utter desolation of the wicked? This will bring us to the very crucial 20th chapter, DV.
