“Bidder 70” – Award Winning Documentary of Environmental Activism (72 min.) – with Special Guest Lauren Swain, Chair of Beyond Oil & Gas Team for Sierra Club. Craig Murray to Help Lead Discussion Sunday, July 21, 2013 – at 11:30 a.m. Community Forum for the Heart and Mind, in the Sanctuary at First Universalist Church - 4101 E. Hampden Ave., Denver, CO (NE corner at S. Colorado Blvd.) BIDDER 70 follows Tim DeChristopher, a University of Utah student, who on December 19, 2008, in a dazzling act of civil disobedience, derailed the outgoing Bush administration’s illegal Bureau of Land Management oil and gas auction. As bidder #70, Tim bid 1.8 million dollars and won 22,000 pristine acres surrounding Utah’s National Parks. He had no intention to pay or drill. In February 2009, the new Obama administration agreed the land should be safeguarded and invalidated the entire auction. Nevertheless, Tim was indicted on two federal felonies with penalties of up to ten years in prison, but is now free. Lauren Swain is chair of the Beyond Oil & Gas Team for the Sierra Club Rocky Mountain Chapter (RMC), which has over 50,000 members and supporters across Colorado. Her team is working in collaboration with other groups to address threats to human health and the environment posed by the rapid expansion of drilling and toxic fracking operations into communities and onto public lands across Colorado. Lauren has been a member of the Sierra Club since the late 80s, when she served as Toxics Chair for the Chapter.
