Bierce, Chambers, and Lovecraft knew what Shelley was trying to - TopicsExpress

Bierce, Chambers, and Lovecraft knew what Shelley was trying to say. They explained it in their own words maintaining that the knowledge of things beyond the masses ability to understand would be viewed as madness. Which is both true and false. The vulgar masses would call someone mad; who spoke of things which were so alien that they had no basis in common knowledge. This, however, is how progress is made. Those individuals who are on the very front of new knowledge are rarely thought of in a complementary manner. - excerpt from The Prophet by Ken Webb
