Big Yellow with a big heart. Big Yellow was never formally trained to be a service dog for her handicapped owner, Ma’nao, but if it hadn’t been for her help, the owner would probably have never gotten a second shot at a good life. Ma battled polio at the age of six, which left him paralyzed and unable to use his legs. He couldn’t afford a wheelchair and had never received aid from the Chinese government…until the heartwarming story of him and his dog struggling to survive went viral. Ma is a widower with no children. For over 40 years, his only family has been his loyal hound. He relied on the kindness of locals and restaurant owners for food for him and his lovable mutt. Ma also had a hard time getting to work. He had to travel over half a mile to get to work in his hometown of Magou, a village in China. So each day, Big Yellow helped push Ma to his shoe-shiner stall in his makeshift wheelchair. When Ma and Big Yellow’s story went viral, the government finally stepped in to give Ma and his dog a better life.
