Bill Everett inking Jack Kirby was an exciting prospect and event. The Immortal and the Mind-Slave! is a Lee/Kirby/Everett concoction. This and the issue before it with the Wrecker* were an example of remaindered stock that found its way to New Zealand** shores in 1974. We could buy our back issues at the same time as paying twenty or twenty-five cents each for the Conway/Buscema editions. Two things; Everett makes Kirby grunty. And I have to continually fight the compulsion to call Lee/Kirby Kirby/Lee. For clarity, I maintain Lee/Kirby. *Also grandiosely inked by Everett. ** The ol homeland for me. Patrick Marcel comments: Too bad Kirby had stopped making efforts on the stories, but the artwork and the inking are glorious.
