Bill Foundation -HEADED TO SURGERY- This is Tiny Tilly. I met Tilly yesterday when I had a meeting at the Baldwin Park Shelter. I may have been foolish to think I could go to the shelter and leave without saving a dog, but frankly I never expected to meet such a special and tender soul like Tilly. Tilly was brought to the shelter last week after being hit by a car and badly injured. She was sweet, shy, and obviously in a tremendous amount of pain. As rescuers, especially in shelter situations, we are often forced to make tough calls, but I simply could not say no to her sweet face. Late last night, she became a Bill Foundation Dog and was brought to our vet to be evaluated. Her list of ailments are many and complicated. This poor baby has bilateral hip luxations (dislocated hip on both sides), a severely broken tail, degloving of her leg (serious loss of skin and tissue) and a major hernia in her belly. I cant even begin to fathem how much pain she must be in... Tiny Tilly is going to have major surgery today to try and save her leg, amputate her tail and repair her hernia. I know she is getting the very best care we have to offer and the outcome is hopeful, yet uncertain. The final estimate of costs for all these procedures waits to be seen, but I know this will be one of the most expensive surgeries we have done in quite some time... I find myself anxiously waiting for a call saying Tilly will be ok and I would ask everyone to cross their paws that she will make a full recovery. Tilly was a surprise. Though we didnt expect to rescue her yesterday, it seems fate had a different idea. She was meant to become a Bill Foundation dog, with a global village standing beside her. Yes, she has a long road before her - and a challenging road, true; but if she can walk it, what waits on the other side is a happy ending and a family whose life she has yet to touch and whose lives will be better for it. When these big cases come up we are forced to ask our villagers to help us thru it. If you have donated recently to help Luke or anything else - it means the world and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. If you have been thinking about donating, or becoming a monthly donor - wed ask you to consider doing so now. With every person who donates, more dogs are saved, more stories are shared, and more awareness spreads. And if you dont have two nickles to rub together, we understand, and ask that you share this post. The more of us that stand together - the closer we get to getting rid of pet overpopulation and abandonment. It takes a village. billfoundation.org Xo Annie
